J&K government orders the eviction of Hotel Nedau in Gulmarg within 24 hours

Web Desk, 02/08/2025

Srinagar, Aug 02, KDC: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the immediate eviction and acquisition of the historic hotel Nedau in Gulmarg, citing the unauthorized occupation of the heritage property. The instructions come in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.

In an official communication, according to the Srinagar -based news agency Kashmir.com (KDC), Tariq Hussain (JKAS), Chief Executive Officer of Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), has directed Gulmarg, Assistant Director of Tourism, Gulmarg to take the physical possession of property and hand it over to GDA within 24 hours. The direction underlines the urgency of enforcement and is supported by legal orders and administrative information.

In the order of eviction, the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s SLP No. 28599/2018 dismissal and Jammu and Kashmir’s High Court gave a letter from 11.12.2018 to a letter of tourism department with 06.09.2018 on 06.09.2018 in OWP No. 847/2015.

“In compliance with these instructions, and in view of SO18 of 2025, notification number TSM-EstT/21/2023 Dated 14.01.2025 was issued under 14.01.2025, Assistant Director Tourism, Gulmarg, which handles the powers of a property officer under the J&K public premises,” said.

The hotel, established at the end of the 19th century, has an important historical and architectural value. Once a magnificent return for royals and elite visitors, the hotel stands as a milestone in the popular tourist destination of Gulmarg for a long time.

While the government has not disclosed future plans for the site, Bedkhali aligns with ongoing efforts to recover government properties, which are considered in unauthorized possession.
