Srinagar, October 2: Congress party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Tariq Hamid Kala on Wednesday said the National Congress-Congress alliance is willing to accept support from like-minded parties and individuals to form the government in the Union Territory if required .
“What we are seeing is that people are voting for the alliance or keeping the BJP out of the corridors of power, which is a good thing,” Kalla told reporters a day after the three-phase assembly elections in JK. .
“Our doors are open to all like-minded people, forces, parties and even individuals if the need arises. We can discuss the issue with our alliance partners so that these people can be spoken to if the need arises,” JKPCC said the chairman.
Asked if they considered the HDP a “like-minded party”, Kara said he did not want to qualify anyone. “I have said that we are like-minded and united in our opposition to the repressive, oppressive policies of the BJP,” he added.
The JK Congress president said there was an “evil design” behind the process by which the Lieutenant Governor nominated five MLAs to the JK Assembly.
Asked whether independent candidates would be the kingmakers when the October 8 poll results are announced, Kara said they considered independent candidates to be “spoilers”.
When the Center realized that all their experiments and schemes had failed, “they implemented a novel way of splitting votes by fielding independents,” the Congress leader charged.
“Their only aim is to disempower Kashmiris,” he claimed.
On the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuck and other Ladakhis in Delhi, JKPCC chief said the prevailing atmosphere created by the BJP and its affiliates in India does not allow for any right-thinking sound.
“If anyone belonging to any religion or region does not agree with the ideology of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the government will reserve jail for him,” he said.
Kara claimed that there was no “real peace” in JK, “only an atmosphere of fear and oppression”.
“The calm they (BJP) glorify is not peace. Peace is in your hearts and minds but there is no peace in anyone’s heart or mind here. There is fear.
“JK is operating through jackboot policy and if there is nothing unexpected about the mandate given by the people, then it is a clear order against such oppression, jackboot policy, anti-people policy and interference in religious affairs,” he said.
