Hazaribagh, Nov 18 (IANS) Hazaribagh police solved a high-value jewelery heist within 24 hours of the incident, arrested three members of an inter-state criminal gang and recovered stolen jewelery worth around Rs 1.5 crore, officials said on Tuesday.
Raids are being conducted to trace other gang members and recover the remaining part of the loot.
The robbery incident took place near Barhi check post at around 9 pm on November 16, when the owner of Jai Mata Di Jewelers was returning home after closing his shop with four bags full of gold and silver.
Four assailants riding a motorcycle stopped him, opened fire and fled with jewelery worth crores of rupees.
Based on Johari’s complaint, an FIR (case no. 439/25) was registered at Barhi police station under section 309 (4) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), section 27 of the Arms Act and other relevant provisions.
To solve the case, the district police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which analyzed technical inputs, CCTV footage, cyber cell data and information received from informers.
Acting on leads, the team first detained a suspect, Inderjeet Choudhary, from Gaya district of Bihar. Important clues were found during his interrogation.
Subsequently, following raids at various places in Gaya (Bihar) and Chatra (Jharkhand), two more accused – Dhananjay Chaudhary alias Chhotu and Roshan Yadav were arrested.
Police recovered 946 grams of gold, 200 grams of Pola (a type of bangle), 11.760 kilograms of silver, a Scorpio SUV, a KTM motorcycle, three country-made pistols, a country-made carbine, six live cartridges and two mobile phones from their possession.
Police officials said the three arrested men have extensive criminal records. Dhananjay Chaudhary is wanted in several cases in Bihar and Jharkhand, while Roshan Yadav has been jailed several times before by the Bihar Police.
Hazaribagh police said that efforts are being made to arrest other absconding gang members and identify the buyers involved in the robbery.
More than 20 officers and soldiers including SDPO Ajit Kumar Vimal and Barhi police station in-charge Vinod Kumar were involved in the operation.
