The electric 4×4 world has been waiting for something suitably strong – and even now Jeep Believe that is the answer. The carmaker has taken the wraps off its first fully electric trail rated, all-new 2026 Jeep Recon suv And a model that stays true to Jeep’s go-anywhere heritage and takes a bold step into its all-electric future.
Production of the Recon will begin early next year, launching in the US and Canada before being rolled out to the rest of the world, including the UK. The Recon promises to reinvent a traditional Jeep attitude for the battery-powered era. The figures are certainly eye-catching: 642bhp, 840Nm of instant torque and a 0-60mph acceleration of just 3.6 seconds. Range is estimated at up to 250 miles. As Jeep says, the Recon “offers legendary Jeep 4×4 capability in a fully electrified package”.
Jeep has made impressive efforts to ensure that its first electric Trail Rated model lives up to the badge. It comes standard with all-electric four-wheel drive and the familiar Selec-Terrain traction system, offering five modes, including a dedicated Rock mode for the Moab trim – a specification that will be offered exclusively in the US and Canada.
The Moab variant features a 15:1 rear final drive ratio for extreme torque multiplication to help it crawl on tough surfaces, and front axle disconnect for better efficiency on the road.
The Recon is no light pretense – Jeep quotes off-road figures including 9.4 inches of ground clearance, a 34-degree approach angle, a 34.5-degree departure angle and 23.5-degree breakover. The low-speed hill control system and locking differential reinforce its status as a proper adventure machine with an electric twist.
Design-wise, the Recon blends unmistakable Jeep DNA with modern EV aesthetics. It has a straight nose, seven-slot grille – now illuminated by LEDs – and chunky proportions that feel instantly familiar. It also leans heavily on the Jeep’s open-air credentials, which include removable doors, rear quarter glass and swing gate glass, as well as the option of a dual-pane sunroof or Sky one-touch power top. Importantly, no tools are required to retract the cabin for maximum fun in the fresh air.
On the inside, the Jeep has gone big in both practicality and innovation. The brand says the Recon’s cabin blends sturdy materials with robust storage solutions and more than 170 standard safety and security features. It features a horizontal dash design with passenger grab handle, an accessory rail for cameras and instruments, modular door panels with removable straps and a two-tier center console with generous storage. With the rear seats folded, you get 1,866 liters of cargo space, supported by an 85-litre front trunk.
Technology also takes a big step forward. The Recon offers more than 26 inches of combined screen space, including a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 14.5-inch horizontal touchscreen – the largest single display ever installed in a Jeep. It runs the latest Uconnect 5 system and includes digital HVAC controls, better mapping, camera view, Amazon Alexa, and Jeep’s own Trails Offroad app with pitch and roll data. EV-specific pages provide live insight into charge status and route planning through TomTom’s dynamic range mapping.
The premium Alpine audio system has been redesigned speakers Sit under the seats, making sure the soundtrack doesn’t play when the doors are closed.
