New Delhi, November 2 (IANS) In a major development before the elections, the police have arrested JDU candidate from Mokama, Anant Singh, in the murder case of Jan Suraj worker Dularchand Yadav.
The arrest, confirmed by Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Karthikeya Sharma, comes just days before the first phase of Bihar assembly elections scheduled for November 6, sending shockwaves through political circles in the state.
According to officials, the incident took place on Thursday, October 30, near Khushal Chak in Mokama. Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, also known as Lallu Mukhiya, was campaigning with his supporters, along with local strongman and former RJD leader Dularchand Yadav, 75. Around the same time, Anant Singh and his supporters were reportedly passing through the same route.
The argument between the two groups soon turned into a violent confrontation that included stone pelting and physical clashes. In this chaos, Dularchand Yadav suffered serious injuries and after some time he was declared dead.
Following his death, the area was engulfed in tension, with heavy police deployment ordered to prevent further advances.
Violence continued the next day after the convoy of former MP Surajbhan Singh’s wife and RJD candidate Veena Devi was attacked in Pandarak area. Eyewitnesses said unidentified miscreants surrounded his convoy and pelted stones, damaging several vehicles and injuring at least one person.
58-year-old Anant Singh is no stranger to controversies, having faced several criminal cases over the years. His arrest just before voting has added a new twist to the already volatile political contest in Mokama, a constituency long associated with political muscle power and factional rivalry.
Further investigation is underway, and additional arrests may be made as they continue to probe the violent clashes that took place ahead of the Bihar elections.
