A seaside neighborhood in essexpart of the parliamentary constituency represented reform uk Leader Nigel Faragehas once again been named the most deprived in England.

An area in the coastal village of Jaywick, close to the town of Clacton-on-Sea in the local authority of Tendring, has been ranked as the most deprived neighborhood for the fourth time in a row, the latest official figures show.

area of blackpool With new submissions for neighborhoods in Hastings and Rotherham again making the majority of the top 10.

Thursday’s data published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Government (MHCLG) presented the relative levels of deprivation in regions or neighborhoods of England in 2025.

Jaywick had previously topped the list in the 2019, 2015 and 2010 publications.

Mr Faraz was elected MP for Clacton in July 2024.

Jaywick received international coverage in 2018, when it was used in a US election campaign advertisement showing bleak images of the area, unpaved roads and dilapidated houses, to warn voters about the consequences of not supporting Donald Trump ahead of the US midterm elections.

According to a statement on Tendring District Council’s website, the latest data highlights “the scale of the challenge” but “does not reflect the progress made since 2019 or the strength of the people who call Jaywick Sands home”.

Council leader Mark Stephenson said: “Jevick Sands is a truly special place – full of heart, pride and real community spirit.

“Together with local residents, we have made real progress and we have bold plans to go even further. But we can’t do it alone – we need the Government to do its bit.

“We are calling for £100 million of national flood funding to be allocated to Jaywick Sands and a cross-departmental taskforce to help solve the policy barriers holding our community back.

“Jevick Sands deserves a future that matches its spirit – and we look forward to working with residents, National Government and the new Essex mayor from 2026 to make that happen.”

MHCLG said Middlesbrough, Birmingham, Hartlepool, Kingston upon Hull and Manchester are the local authority districts with the highest proportion of neighborhoods in the most deprived areas in England.

The London boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Hackney were the most deprived in terms of income loss affecting children.

The department said both boroughs, as well as three other London boroughs of Newham, Islington and Southwark, are the most deprived in terms of income loss affecting older people.
