Srinagar, July 02, KDC: Minister of Minister of Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana and Minister of Agriculture Production Department, Javed Ahmed Dar, today, in a meeting held in Civil Secretary today, widely reviewed the irrigation scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
In order to ensure that farmers are provided a reliable irrigation supply to ensure that farmers are provided with the department to assess the response system adopted by the department, the meeting was called by the agricultural community to face irrigation problems.
MLA, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Hasanan Masudi, Irshad Rasul Kar, Hilal Akbar Lone and Irfan Hafiz Lone also attended the meeting and shared their concerns about the supply of irrigation in their constituencies.
A detailed discussion was held on lift and gravity irrigation schemes, NABARD/CAPECS/CSS projects and efficient water management work for agricultural prosperity.
Javed Rana directed for effective measures to deal with irrigation issues, especially a efficient response mechanism to address farmers’ grievances. “There is no doubt that we are facing an important situation due to adverse climatic conditions and also have drawbacks, but we have to find solutions,” he said.
He said that it is our collective responsibility to find a solution to the problems faced by our agricultural community amidst paddy cultivation. He called for both short and long -term measures to increase the supply of irrigation water as per the requirements on the ground. He also asked to assess both machinery and infrastructure in view of the current climatic conditions.
Superintendent engineers were instructed to submit a comprehensive report underlining possible measures to upgrade and strengthen existing resources in their respective areas.
During the meeting, Rana also emphasized on the completion of the project on time, regular monitoring of public services and expedited project execution for increased agricultural assistance.
The meeting was already focused on discussion about restoring existing canals, which have been encroached, with focus on their revival.
Rana called for being worried about contemplation and illegal mining reports that are pose a threat to the irrigation system to take appropriate action.
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Jal Shakti, Shaleen Kabra gave a detailed presentation on the infrastructure of current irrigation. He gave information about the functioning of the lift and gravitational irrigation schemes of the department across the UT, which is the status of NABARD schemes being implemented under various RIDF and CAPEX budget schemes under the Capex Budget 2025-26.
Shaleen Kabra also informed about the new schemes to be proposed under PMKSY-HKKP and the status of execution of schemes under PMKSY-HKKP. He also gave details about the affected schemes due to low rainfall.
Additional Chief Secretary highlighted that the average gauge readings in rivers have decreased significantly, which adversely affects many irrigation schemes in Jammu and Kashmir. (KDC)
