Ahead of the India vs England fourth Test starting in Ranchi on Friday, Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad, the BCCI said in a media release late on Tuesday night. “The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played in recent times,” a BCCI statement said. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is out of the fourth test. “His participation in the final Test match in Dharamshala is dependent on his fitness,” the BCCI said.

Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the team for the third Test in Rajkot, has joined the team in Ranchi.

As part of workload management, India rested Mohammed Siraj from the second Test in Visakhapatnam before he returned to play a role in India’s record 434-run win over the visitors in Rajkot on Sunday.

India are in a good position to win the series in Ranchi, but if they are not able to do so, the home team will be in dire need of Bumrah’s services for the fifth and final Test starting in Dharamsala from March 7.

According to an insider, Rahul, who missed the second and third Tests after complaining of pain in his right quadriceps, reached 90 per cent fitness last week.

“He is reaching his match fitness and should be available for the Ranchi Test,” a source told news agency PTI.

Rahul was one of India’s best batsmen in the opening Test in Hyderabad and was struggling with the same injury that he suffered during last year’s IPL.

The batsman has performed well for India across all formats since his return after being out of action for four months. He was the only century scorer for India in the drawn two-Test series in South Africa in December.
