Nonny Maduke, who excelled in wins over Andorra and Serbia in September, is also a contender and while Tuchel has talked about using Foden as a No. 9 or No. 10, Bowen thinks he could be a rival on the right.
“I have competition with Bukayo, Nonny is injured for this camp, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden can all play there – you’re talking about world-class, elite players and I’m in that category,” he said.
“Bukayo has proven it at international and club level. For me it’s about pushing myself and pushing Bukayo as well. Give the manager a headache and give Bukayo a headache too.”
Bowen hopes his ability to play multiple positions will count in his favor. Although he rarely played at left back for his club, he spent some 2-0 win in Albania on Sunday He often operates as a centre-forward for West Ham after starting at right back.
“I’m not going to stake my claim and say I’m better than Harry Kane,” he said. “They’re big shoes to fill. But that’s one thing about me, my versatility. When Bukayo came in I played 20 minutes at left back. The manager has seen that in me. He’s seen that hunger, that drive, that wherever I am on the pitch, I’ll run. Maybe not left-back or right-back because that would be a bit more confusing, but anywhere in the front row I’m comfortable playing.”

Bowen said he had to fight inferiority complex to believe he belonged on the international stage. He started his career in non-league football and is now dreaming of going to the World Cup.
“I never thought I’d play professional football, that’s the ultimate thing,” he said. “I’ve come from Hereford, coming from the Conference, I never thought I’d be standing here talking about my 20th cap. It could be tremendous with England but you need to tell yourself you’re not here to put up numbers, you’re here on the merit of what you’ve done at a consistent level.
“Playing at the highest level is the pinnacle of any player’s career. I was lucky to get the Euros experience and the World Cup will be that extra step.”
