I think the orders would have been issued in compliance with the Supreme Court order,” the outlet quoted Itu as saying.
In November, the apex court gave ‘urgent’ direction to all states and union territories remove stray dogs from educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stands and railway stations, and shift them “to a designated shelter”.
Meanwhile, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Poonch has issued an order directing all Drawing and Disbursement Officers (DDOs) and Heads of Institutions (HOIs) of government and private schools in this district to select a nodal officer in their respective schools for timely monitoring and coordination regarding issues related to stray dogs.
Nodal officers will be responsible for reporting stray dog Scenes and incidents, coordinating with Municipal, Animal Husbandry and local bodies for action, and ensuring safety and awareness among staff and students.
“Furthermore, it is mandatory to display the name, designation and contact number of the nominated nodal officer outside the boundary wall or main gate of the office or school for public information. Any lapse in compliance will be viewed seriously,” the Greater Kashmir report said.
CEO Kupwara has also issued a similar order to all principals, ZEOs and headmasters, directing them to display ‘Beware of Dog’ signage boards at prominent places inside and outside the school premises. “Furthermore, you are directed to nominate yourself as the school nodal officer for the said purpose and submit the compliance report,” it said.
