Srinagar, Oct 21 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday paid tribute to the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir Police who sacrificed their lives in the service of the country during the Police Commemoration Day programme.
Celebrated across the country, the day holds special significance for Jammu and Kashmir, where hundreds of local police personnel have made the supreme sacrifice for the country.
“We bow our heads to the memory of all police martyrs and remember with gratitude those brave police personnel who are serving selflessly to ensure the integrity of the nation and the safety of its citizens,” the LG said on the occasion.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid tribute to the police martyrs at Ziwan on the outskirts of Srinagar city and remembered the supreme sacrifice made by these martyrs in the line of duty.
A large commemorative parade was organized at the Ziwan headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, where LG, Manoj Sinha took the salute.
Remembering the 1,614 personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor said their sacrifice cannot be compared with money, and claimed that the administration will ensure that the families of the martyrs do not face difficulties.
“Our police personnel neither get holidays nor any festivals. Only duty is their duty,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also claimed that during the last five years, the administration has ensured that terrorists and their supporters do not succeed in their nefarious designs.
Meanwhile, Jammu Zone IGP Bhim Sen Tooti said that 120 anti-terrorist operations are being conducted daily in Jammu division to eliminate foreign terrorists, which remains a significant challenge.
IGP Tuti said that foreign terrorists operating in the upper areas have posed a challenge for the last two years, but the anti-terrorism grid has been strengthened in Jammu.
Tributes were also paid to the police martyrs in various district headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir, where the families of the martyrs were special invitees. Senior officers presiding over these ceremonies reiterated their commitment that these families will remain a proud part of the larger police family.
