“I can’t think of too many people who have had average and poor starts – I’m not talking seven games, but if you’re coming over Christmas and January and saying ‘oh’, history doesn’t tell me it takes a year for foreign signings to come to England.
Discussion between Carragher and fellow pundits jamie redknapp And Roy Keane was concerned about Wirtz’s impact – or lack thereof – since joining Liverpool and whether he could improve his form.
Speaking about Premier League success, having made a slow start, Carragher said: “People always say Thierry Henry and it’s nonsense, he scored 25 goals in his first year at Arsenal.”
Redknapp then stepped in and explained that Henry had not scored in his first eight games with the Gunners.
“Absolutely,” Carragher continued, “what I’m saying is it wasn’t a year. Seven or eight games is too early. [to judge] But once we get into January, February, March when is the time when we can start saying ‘maybe this was a mistake?’
“Especially at Liverpool, great foreign signings come into play for the club.”
