Jal Shakti Minister reviews Parnai Hydro Power Project in Buffaliaz

Water Power Minister, Javed Ahmed Rana today reviewed the Parnai Hydro power project at Buffaliaz, Surkot, highlighting the importance of prioritizing the interests of local communities in water resources management.

The minister insisted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the first right over their water resources, and it is necessary to protect and promote their interests. He emphasized the need to prioritize his interests in water management and use.

The minister highlighted the attention of JK government on hydropower development and energy self -reliance in Poonch.

Reviewing the progress on the Parnai hydro power project, he emphasized the execution agency for timely completion.

The minister was informed that a detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared for Fagla Hydro Electric Project and is waiting for the implementation to exploit the hydropower capacity of the area.

Under Phase -2 of the Parnai project, initiation is planned to adequately irrigate various areas of Mehar, promote local farming development and improve the quality of life for residents.

The minister emphasized the importance of permanent use of water resources, ensuring that the benefits of hydroelectric projects are equally shared among the local communities. He emphasized the need for community engagement and participated in decision -making processes related to water resources management.

He said that the JK government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is committed to protect the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and ensures that they get a proper part of the benefit from the water resources of the region. The purpose of the Parnai project is to increase energy security, promote economic growth and improve standard of living in Poonch.

Rana is advocating reviewing existing agreements and treaties to ensure that they are fair, justified and only for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This review, he maintains, will help identify areas for improvement and ensure that the water resources of the region are used in a permanent and equitable manner.
