Jaishankar met with Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina and thanked her for her guidance in further developing bilateral relations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina here on Saturday and thanked her for her guidance in taking the Indo-Bangladesh Maitri forward. This was Jaishankar’s first meeting with Hasina since she returned for a record fifth term in January.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the prestigious 60th Munich Security Conference, the world’s leading forum for international security debate.

It is an honor to call on Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Congratulations to her on her new term. Jaishankar posted a photo on X and thanked her for guiding India Bangladesh Maitri forward. The Indian minister also met with Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. India is home to the Southeast Asia regional headquarters of top health agency WHOSEAR.

Since arriving here on Friday, Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Blinken, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, Greek Defense Minister Nicos Dendias, Argentinian Foreign Minister Dai Ana Mondino and Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolly.

On Friday, he also met with Josep Borrell Fontales, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. Jaishankar held extensive conversations with Berbock, shared views on major security challenges with Dendias, and discussed economic and political cooperation between India and Argentina with Mondino.

He said after Friday night’s meeting that the two sides exchanged views on the main security challenges facing the world today.

Great to meet Argentina’s FM @DianaMondino tonight. Our economic and political cooperation was discussed. He said he looked forward to working with her. The minister also met with Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier González-Olechea and Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel.
