Indore, Oct 13 (IANS) The Center for Jain Studies, sanctioned at a cost of Rs 27.16 crore, aimed at promoting advanced research, translation, digitization of manuscripts and integration of traditional knowledge with modern pedagogy, was launched here on Monday. An officer gave this information.
Emphasizing the role of technology, Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in preservation, digitization and promotion of heritage languages for wider educational and cultural engagement.
Supported by the Minority Affairs Ministry under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), the center has come up at the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore.
The DAVV on Monday hosted a national seminar on “Jainism and Indian Knowledge System” on the occasion of the launch of its Center for Jain Studies, an official said in a statement.
During his visit, Chandra Shekhar Kumar also made a field visit to the university campus and interacted with faculty members.
He urged the University to develop the Center for Jain Studies as a global center of excellence, integrating modern technology and digital tools for research, documentation and dissemination.
The Ministry is supporting universities across the country to set up dedicated Centers of Excellence for promotion and preservation of heritage and classical languages under PMJVK.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has already established Centers of Excellence: Mumbai University – for the study of Pali, Prakrit and Avesta Pahlavi and Gujarat University – for the study of Prakrit languages.
The official statement said that these centers aim to promote advanced research, translation, digitization of manuscripts and integration of traditional knowledge with modern pedagogy.
Through this initiative, the Ministry seeks to protect the linguistic and philosophical heritage of India and strengthen the intellectual traditions of the country’s diverse communities.
Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar and Joint Secretary of Minority Affairs Ministry Ram Singh were also present in this program.
