Patna, November 15 (IANS) A day after the crushing defeat of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Grand Alliance in the Bihar Assembly elections, senior RJD leader and former state party president Jagdanand Singh described the election results as ‘surprising’.

Speaking to reporters in Patna, Singh said, “Many media channels are claiming that the votes received by the candidates were much more than the actual votes cast in the state. This is surprising, but this is the mandate of the people of Bihar.”

Singh met RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday evening, a day after the declaration of assembly election results in Bihar.

The former state RJD president said, “Whatever the results, our relationship is strong. We met our party’s supreme leader Lalu Prasad Yadav.”

Meanwhile, Congress Lok Sabha MP from Katihar Tariq Anwar said the party will conduct a detailed review of the election defeat in Bihar.

“Whatever the reasons for the shock in Bihar, the party will analyze them thoroughly. An official committee will be formed to investigate every aspect,” he said.

Earlier in the day, RJD issued its first official reaction on the defeat in Bihar elections.

RJD wrote on the party’s official

RJD ally Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni also addressed the media and said that he accepts and respects the mandate of the people of Bihar.

He congratulated NDA on its victory.

Mukesh Sahni said the result was unexpected, adding that the situation on the ground appeared to be different.

BJP won 89 seats, JD-U 85, LJP-RV 19, HAM 5 and RLSP 4.

RJD was reduced to 25 seats. Congress won 6 seats, Left got only 3 seats. AIMIM won 5 seats, IP Gupta’s party Indian Inclusive Party won one seat and Bahujan Samaj Party won one seat.
