At any rate, he doesn’t look scared, and clearly has had no briefing. no 10 capable of breaking Mr Streeting’s ambitious ambitions,

The timing of the briefing was also extremely helpful for the opposition leader. Whatever real or not the threat to Sir Keir’s leadership may or may not be, these briefings have been spectacularly adversarial – only adding to the existing “chaos of clumsiness and division”, to quote the words in which Labor ridiculed the previous Conservative administration.
If, as is still more likely than not, Sir Keir will live to contest the next general electionHe will lead a party that is at its weakest because of its public divisions – the worst of all worlds.
However, there is no point pretending that Labor MPs are too worried about the continued depth of their popularity, the potential loss of more seats in Scotland, Wales and local councils next year and the ultimate disaster of a Nigel Farage-led reform UK government after the next general election.
Some think changing party leader will change this – but does anyone outside the early campaign teams, no doubt, really believe that? A change of leader could make things substantially worse if the Labor Party lurches leftwards – and while the presentation of the government’s strategy has been poor, what really matters to voters is not rhetorical skills or a smooth media personality but, to coin another phrase, delivery, delivery, delivery.
Making Mr Streeting or Andy Burnham, Ed Miliband, Angela Rayner, Shabana Mahmood or Lucy Powell prime minister would not change Labour’s poll ratings and propel them forward on reform. It will not create a single job, pay off a single extra pound from the national debt, or build a single extra house, or close a single so-called asylum hotel.
The changes will leave Britain’s social and economic realities completely unchanged no 10And less than a failed leadership coup. The outlook for Labor may be bleak, but the public will not forgive a Labor government if it descends into such self-indulgence.
