Palestinian territories:
Hamas-controlled Gaza’s health ministry said on Monday that the Israeli military had withdrawn tanks and vehicles from the complex of Al-Shifa, the main hospital in the besieged area, days after launching a major operation in the area.
The ministry said dozens of bodies were found in the complex, and AFP journalists and witnesses saw tanks and vehicles rolling out.
The Israeli military did not immediately confirm any withdrawal.
The army launched the operation on March 18 and said it was a “precision” operation targeting Hamas militants, which it said was carried out at the complex.
It has previously been said that dozens of militants were killed in fighting in and around Shifa.
Hamas denies operating in Shifa and other medical facilities.
“Dozens of bodies, some of them decomposed, were found in and around Shifa Medical Center,” the health ministry said in a statement.
The Israeli military “withdrew from the Shifa medical building after burning it and putting it completely out of use,” the statement said.
“The scale of damage to buildings within the complex and surrounding it is significant.”
An AFP reporter at the scene said several buildings in the complex had been damaged and there was fire damage in some areas.
A doctor told AFP that more than 20 bodies had been recovered, some crushed by withdrawing vehicles.
