Israeli-made supersonic Fury missiles used in attacks on Iran: report

By | Published | No Comments

According to media reports, Israeli nighttime attacks near Iranian nuclear facilities were allegedly carried out using high-tech missiles that can fly at supersonic speeds, making them difficult for air defense systems to detect and intercept. The attack came just days after Tehran launched an unprecedented assault on the Jewish state.

“Israel’s National News” stated in the report that the missile named “Furious” was developed by the Jewish National Security Industry and was identified in photos after the night attack on April 18, which targeted Natan Iranian air defense systems near nuclear facilities. The location is located in Isfahan Province.

The report quoted state-owned Kan 11 television as saying the missile “carries a warhead of 150 kilograms of explosives and has a range of up to 145 kilometers.”

“It can also adjust its path on the fly to hit exactly the target it is programmed to hit,” it added.

The Fury missile is “designed to hit fixed targets that meet conditions similar to those hit in the attack on military targets in Isfahan.”

The New York Times said in a report on Saturday that the move to use high-tech missiles in the attack was “intended to make Iran think twice before attacking Israel again.”

Iranian officials told the newspaper that the Israeli strike hit a Russian-made S-300 air defense system, adding that Tehran did not detect any incursions into its airspace on the day of the attack.

According to the New York Times, the missile was launched from an S-35 fighter jet “far from Israeli or Iranian airspace.”

Neither the missile nor the aircraft entered Jordanian airspace, the statement added.

On April 14, Jordan helped shoot down some of the hundreds of drones and missiles Iran fired at Israel in retaliation for the April 1 airstrike that hit the Iranian consulate in Syria and killed seven Revolutionary Guards personnel. .

At the same time, the Times of Israel stated that satellite images showed that the Russian-made S-300 air defense system at the 8th Shekari Air Base in Isfahan was damaged.

The system is believed to be part of safety arrangements at the Natanz nuclear power plant, the newspaper said.

“Additional synthetic aperture radar satellite images taken on Friday also showed evidence of an attack on the radar site,” The Times of Israel added.

After the attack, Iran claimed that three small drones were involved in the attack.

Iranian state television claimed the small planes were destroyed by air defense systems, but did not mention whether missiles were used.

Israel has yet to officially comment on the attack.

The alleged attack on Iran came just hours after the United States and Britain imposed new sanctions on Tehran following a sweeping attack on Israel.

The new sanctions target 16 people and two Iranian entities that produce engines that power drones used in Israeli attacks.
