Israel launched airstrikes in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley early on Sunday, two Lebanese security sources told Reuters, hours after an Israeli drone was shot down over Lebanon.
Sources said the Israeli attack targeted a training camp for the armed group Hezbollah in the village of Janta near the Syrian border.
One of the attacks targeted the town of Savry near the eastern city of Baalbek, the source added.
Hezbollah has been fighting Israel on Lebanon’s southern border since October 8, a day after the Palestinian group Hamas launched an attack on Israel, escalating regional tensions.
An Iran-backed group claimed responsibility for downing an Israeli drone early Saturday.
“On the evening of Saturday, April 6, 2024, a Hermez 900 drone of the Israeli army was shot down by Islamic resistance forces over Lebanese territory,” Hezbollah said in a statement.
