Israel has struck more than 50 Hezbollah targets in Syria and more than 3,400 targets in Lebanon since its war with Hamas in Gaza began in October, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Saturday.

“Since the beginning of the war, we have attacked more than 50 such Hezbollah targets across Syria from the ground and the air,” Hagari told reporters, adding that more than 3,400 similar attacks had been carried out against the group in the southern region. Lebanon.

Hezbollah has been fighting on the side of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian war for years and is an ally of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

Israel rarely comments on separate strikes against Syria, but it has repeatedly said it will not allow Assad’s arch-enemy Iran to expand its presence there.

Since the war broke out between Hamas and Israel on October 7, there have been almost daily exchanges of fire on the Lebanese-Israeli border, mainly between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.

According to an AFP tally, at least 218 people have been killed in Lebanon, mostly Hezbollah fighters but also at least 26 civilians.

Hagari said on Saturday that Israeli attacks on Lebanon had killed more than 200 “terrorists and commanders.”

Israeli officials say nine Israeli soldiers and six civilians have been killed in northern Israel since the Gaza war began.

The United States launched airstrikes against Iranian-backed militant groups in Iraq and Syria late on Friday and promised more strikes in retaliation for a drone strike in Jordan on Sunday that killed three American soldiers.

The U.S. military said it hit 85 targets in seven different locations in Syria and Iraq.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said the attack killed at least 29 pro-Iranian militants in Syria. The government in Baghdad said they killed 16 people in Iraq, including civilians.

Since mid-October, Iran-backed armed groups angered by U.S. support for Israel in the Gaza war have attacked bases housing U.S. and allied forces in Iraq, Syria and Jordan more than 165 times.

According to AFP statistics based on official Israeli data, Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, killing more than 1,160 people in Israel, most of them civilians, and the Gaza War broke out.

Israel responded with a fierce land, sea and air offensive in Gaza that killed at least 27,238 people, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-controlled territory’s health ministry.
