Just before 11 a.m., some users trying to book tickets were told the site would not be operational for at least an hour. According to some reports, the stock exchange-listed company attributed the downtime to a technical issue.

Tatkal service allows passengers to book a limited number of tickets a day before the intended day of travel. The window for tatkal booking opens at 10 am for air-conditioned (AC) coaches and 11 am for non-AC berths.

The IRCTC website and app accounts for about 1.25 million tickets sold in a single day in India, i.e. 84% of all railway tickets.

IRCTC shares remained unaffected by the disruption caused to its users. One benefit is having a $6.5 billion monopoly on providing access to the country’s most popular and essential means of transportation.
