Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei thanked the country’s armed forces for attacks on Israel this month and said Iran had demonstrated its power no matter how many targets it struck, Iran’s official news agency reported on Sunday.
On April 13, Iran launched its first direct attack on Israel, launching more than 300 missiles and drones, allegedly in retaliation for Israel’s suspected deadly attack on its embassy compound in Damascus on April 1.
Most of the missiles and drones were shot down by Israel and its allies, and the attack caused a certain degree of damage to Israel.
“How many missiles were launched and how many missiles hit the target is not the main issue, what really matters is that Iran showed its strength in that operation,” Khamenei said on Sunday.
Earlier on Friday, explosions were heard over the Iranian city of Isfahan, which sources said was an Israeli attack. Tehran downplayed the incident and said it had no plans to retaliate, a response that appeared to be an attempt to avoid a regional war.
“In recent operations, the armed forces have successfully minimized costs and maximized benefits,” Khamenei added, urging military officials to “continuously pursue military innovation and learn the enemy’s tactics.”
