“IPL trophy is not won by celebration, aggression, defeating CSK”: Ambati Rayudu criticizes RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s fairytale journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 came to an end on Wednesday. While RCB lost by a huge margin against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the eliminator match, Sanju Samson’s team sealed their progress to Qualifier 2. With the defeat, RCB’s hopes of winning the IPL title for the first time also ended. By the end, the franchise failed for the 17th consecutive season.

Seeing RCB losing in the first round of playoffs, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Ambati Rayudu hit out at the team.

During the Star Sports telecast of the match, Rayudu could be heard saying: “The IPL trophy is not won by celebration and aggression. The IPL trophy is not won by just beating CSK. To win the IPL trophy you have to do well in the playoffs. Gotta play.” ,

After the conclusion of the game, RCB captain Faf du Plessis admitted that he was proud of the run his team made to qualify for the playoffs.

“With the dew coming, we felt we were weak with the bat. We felt we were 20 runs short of a good score. Credit to the boys – they fought really well. That’s all you can ask for. If you see Naturally assessing the pitch and the conditions, you would say it was a 180 pitch because it was swinging upwards and quite slow.

“But what we’ve found this season, with the impact players, equal scores is not enough anymore. There’s also dew coming in. There’s a lot of pride. A lot of teams – their wheels would have fallen off after 1 to 9. It takes a lot of heart and courage to come back like this in six consecutive matches, we were not special in terms of scoring extra 20 runs with the bat,” Du Plessis said after the match.

With the defeat, RCB also made the unwanted record of becoming the team with the most defeats in the IPL playoffs.
