Mumbai Indians kept their IPL 2024 playoff dream alive with a crucial win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. The win lifted Mumbai Indians to ninth position with 8 points from 12 matches with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.212. Although MI’s chances of reaching the playoffs are slim, the win means they will have a chance of reaching the top 4 if they win the remaining two matches. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are in fourth place with 12 points from 11 matches. ,

Talking about the match, after the brilliant bowling of Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla, Suryakumar Yadav scored a sensational century and MI defeated SRH by 7 wickets.

Here’s a look at three scenarios that could propel MI into the IPL playoffs –

Condition 1:First and foremost, the Hardik Pandya-led side needs to win all their remaining two matches in the IPL 2024 league campaign. MI’s next match will be against Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants.

Condition 2:It is expected that no other team will be able to cross the 12-point mark in the IPL 2024 standings. Currently, SRH, LSG and CSK already have 12 points each. Therefore, at least two of these franchises will have to lose their remaining matches in the league campaign. With KKR and RR already sitting at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions with 16 points each, it is impossible for Mumbai Indians to overtake them. In fact, big wins for KKR and RR against other teams will only benefit MI.

Condition 3:The net run rate of Mumbai Indians is currently -0.212. Even if MI wins all its remaining matches, they will have to do so by a huge margin to add to the positive NRR.

But, this may not be enough if other teams have a better NRR than MI by 12 points. Although you never say never in a sport like cricket, it is fair to say that Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 playoff qualification prospects do not inspire much hope in the hearts of their fans.
