The iOS 17.4 beta was released earlier this month, but all eyes are already on the big iOS update coming later this year. The iOS 18 version is expected to be a major update for iPhone users, not only because of new features, but its overall design may also undergo major changes. Apple is planning some big features for the next iOS version, and here we’re detailing what 2024 iPhone owners may be able to use.

iOS 18 release date

iOS 18 will definitely be unveiled first during the WWDC 2024 keynote, which is usually held around June every year. Apple will show off new features for new and older iPhones later this year. The official release of iOS 18 should coincide with the release of the iPhone 16 series.

iOS 18 expected features

So what does this year’s iOS 18 update promise for iPhone users?

AI improvements for iOS

The biggest change we see in iOS 18 is Apple’s entry into the world of artificial intelligence, like other tech brands today. iOS 18 can rely on generative artificial intelligence built into the device, giving Apple a clear advantage over rivals, and also keep user data secure rather than storing it in the cloud. Samsung launched AI features in the Galaxy S24 series in January with help from Google, but Apple plans to develop all elements in-house to keep its AI mission on track.

New look Siri

Now that Apple is looking to incorporate LLM into its model, Siri is an obvious choice to see improvements. We dare say that Siri needs an overhaul, and the addition of artificial intelligence could give it assistant capabilities that Apple has never offered. Making Siri sound more natural would be a good idea, and having it give answers in a personalized way would give it a better chance of success. iOS 18 may see these changes, and a new look for Siri may bring a lot of benefits to iPhone users.

RCS finally available for iPhone

Apple has long avoided getting involved in the RCS controversy, while Google has done everything it can to change that situation. Eventually, this will happen, as iOS 18 may mark the introduction of RCS messaging functionality for iPhone users. RCS will likely be released with the new version in September. Having RCS means both iPhone and Android users finally have cross-platform messaging links.

Apple’s focus on iOS 18 is expected to extend to iPadOS 18 as well, which will be an interesting development to track in the coming months.
