Investigation agency summoned Arvind Kejriwal for the 7th time in liquor policy case.

Arvind Kejriwal has given up six summons so far

New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has received the seventh summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), officials told NDTV this morning. Mr Kejriwal has been asked to appear before the investigating agency on February 26 for questioning in connection with the Delhi Liquor Excise Policy case.

He did not attend the sixth call of the ED on Monday and his party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed the summons as “illegal” and said the matter is now before the court.

Mr Kejriwal also did not attend the summons on 2 February, 19 January, 3 January, 21 December and 2 November.

Mr Kejriwal, who has ignored the summons citing various prior commitments, says he is ready to cooperate with the investigating agency, but questions the timing and urgency of the summons.

AAP has described the ED’s action as “politically motivated” and alleged that the BJP wanted to arrest him to topple his government in Delhi.

The investigating agency had approached a city court earlier this month as Mr Kejriwal had not attended several summons related to the case.

ED is investigating allegations of money laundering related to Delhi liquor excise policy. The case revolves around the allegation that the AAP government’s amended liquor sale policy allowed it to receive kickbacks from the cartel, which was allegedly used to finance election expenses in various states, including Goa.

While Mr Kejriwal has not been named as an accused in the case, two senior AAP leaders, including former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, face arrest.
