On Thursday, on the occasion of International Day against the misuse of drugs, Union Home Minister Amit Shah greeted all those fighting against drug abuse and confirmed the government’s commitment to a drug-free India.
In a post on X, Shah said, “On International Day against drug abuse, a drug-free greetings to all our warriors and colleagues in our fight for India.”
Drugs “the biggest crisis for our youth,” call
Shah emphasized the “approach of the entire government” of the Modi government to deal with the danger.
He said that the Center has taken strong steps not only to eliminate drug networks but also for rehabilitation of affected persons.
The Home Minister wrote in the post, “The Modi government is going with an entire-government point of view for this threat, brutally killing Narco-Kartel and drug addiction brings the youth back to normal life with sympathy.”
He said, “This day can further strengthen our resolve against the risk of misuse of drug abuse.”
Earlier, while addressing the state program to mark International Day against drug abuse and illegal smuggling, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Delhi Police arrested at least 1100 people involved in drug trade in 2025.
CM Gupta said, “This year, in 2025, our Delhi Police has arrested at least 1100 people involved in drug trade, cases have been registered against them, and all the drug drugs found have been confiscated …”
He urged the government, police and society to work together against drug threat in the national capital.
“Government, police and society are all working to erase it, but we all need to work together as a team. I believe that when we all work together, the danger of drugs will end completely from society,” said Rekha Gupta.
June 26, was celebrated as International Day against drug abuse and illegal smuggling, United Nations International Day. The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and fight against drug abuse and illegal drug trade.
This day has been seen since 1989. Just before the first opium war in China on 26 June, Humen, ending on June 25, 1839, was selected to celebrate Lin Zesu (Chinese political philosopher and politician) of opium trade in Guangdong.
