Inside Rod Stewart’s $105m ‘maximalism’ mansion

By | Published | No Comments

Rod Stewart is rocking and rolling when it comes to his real estate holdings.

Just days after the British star’s former Malibu home was listed for sale asking $49.5m (AU$74.2m), Stewart’s current Los Angeles compound has hit the market for $70m (AU$105m), the Wall Street Journal first reported.

European in its style, and standing in the gated enclave of North Beverly Park, the property sprawls across 3065 sqm with a pool and a soccer field.

That soccer field, while rare in LA, is no surprise — Stewart, 78, is a known soccer fan.

So much so that, at one time, he was spotted in Malibu playing football with the Scottish national team right on the beach after inviting them there to play.

The Journal notes Stewart bought the property in 1991 for $12.08m, according to sales records. He also owns a home in affluent Palm Beach, Florida.

Images of the home show Old World-style touches such as ceiling mouldings and medallions, herringbone floors, Corinthian columns, crystal chandeliers and marble floors decorated in a variety of patterns.

The main house has nine bedrooms, one of which is the primary suite with a sitting room and a terrace that looks over the pool.

Additionally, the main wardrobe in the primary suite is large enough to house Stewart’s massive shoe collection.

Elsewhere, there are entertaining areas, notably including a dazzling speak-easy with handsome jade green-painted walls.

A main-floor great room also comes with a bar and, outside, there’s a loggia to spend time with guests alfresco.

The listing also includes a guesthouse that is three stories tall and two gyms.

Michelle Oliver of Douglas Elliman has the listing and declined to tell the outlet why Stewart has decided to list.

She added it’s fit for new owners who are looking for “a return to maximalism” and for “something that looks different and stands out.”
