Guwahati, September 18 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday claimed that the state government has taken the infrastructure and development initiative for the Bodoland Territorial Area (BTR) to strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the region.
Projects include Gobardhana and Polytechnic and Vocational Training Institutes in Parbatzora, Paramedical and Nursing Science Institutes at Tamulpur and Kochpara, Birsa Munda Cultural Complex and a Gorkha Bhawan at Chirang.

Describing the initiative as “infrastructure for a vibrant BTR”, CM Sarma said that projects are designed to create livelihood opportunities, preserve cultural identity and promote inclusive development in the field.
The announcement is just ahead of the important Bodoland Regional Council (BTC) elections.
In recent times, CM Sarma underlined the BJP -led government’s commitment to the peace agreement signed with Bodo groups in 2020, which paved the way for stability in the region after decades of extremism and unrest.
The Chief Minister has repeatedly stressed that development, no disruption, should define the future of Bodoland.
In a series of earlier statements, he highlighted how his government “ended the era of gun culture” by ensuring that the former terrorists were rehabilitated through skill development and employment schemes.
He has also said that the BJP alliance with regional parties at BTC has ensured that “every promise made in the agreement is being implemented gradually”.
By focusing on the infrastructure that mixes economic growth with cultural recognition – such as tribal food parks, Birsa Munda cultural complex, and Bodoland Movement Memorial Museum – Government is demanding a balance between prominent factors in Bodo Heartland.
With the elections, CM Sarma’s latest pitch signals indications that the BJP is banking on a development-managed story to consolidate support in BTR.
