More than 60 flights were canceled from Bengaluru airport on Thursday (December 11).
Meanwhile, the embattled airline’s CEO Peter Albers has been summoned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to submit a comprehensive report including data and updates on the recent operational disruptions by 3 pm today.
On December 10, IndiGo canceled 220 flights from three major airports – Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
On Wednesday, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Mehta spoke for the first time in 10 days about the crisis, apologizing for the chaos and blaming a combination of internal and external “unforeseen” events for the massive disruption.
“These include minor technical glitches, scheduled changes associated with the onset of winter season, adverse weather conditions, increasing congestion in the aviation system and implementation/and operations under the updated crew rostering rules,” Mehta said.
Additionally, the DGCA has deployed its personnel at IndiGo’s headquarters as it steps up surveillance on India’s largest airline. The DGCA has formed an inspection team of eight senior captains, and two of them, along with two government officials, will be stationed at IndiGo’s Gurgaon headquarters to monitor the routes affected by cancellations, crew deployment, unplanned leave and staff shortages.
According to the order, these teams will submit daily reports to the regulator.
