A group of men from Punjab and Haryana who claim they were tricked into joining the Russian army and fighting in Ukraine have released a new video doubling down on their plea for help.

The video shows six men wearing military-style winter jackets with hoods. The location label is “Sadov, Zaporozhye Oblast, Ukraine”.

Addressing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of the men said: “We are trapped by Russian troops. Earlier, we also released a video seeking help from the Indian government. We urge you to contact Contact the embassy in Moscow and ask for help.” “Please ask the government here for help to ensure that we get out of here as soon as possible. We know that India and Russia have very good relations and you will rescue us from here. Thank you.”

Earlier this month, the group released a video calling for immediate evacuation. In the 105-second video, seven men explain their situations and ask for help. The video is shorter – about 26 seconds.

New Delhi TV learned that the gang set off for Russia on December 27 to celebrate the New Year. They hold 90-day Russian visas. In an earlier video, Harsh, a 19-year-old boy from Karnal in Haryana, said a Russian agent offered to take them to Belarus.

“We didn’t know we needed a visa. When we went to Belarus (without a visa), the agent asked us for more money and then abandoned us. The police caught us and handed us over to the Russian authorities, who let us Sign the document,” he claimed in the video. “Now they (Russia) are forcing us to join the war against Ukraine.”

Harsh’s family had earlier told New Delhi television that he had been looking for work abroad and reportedly told him that it would be easier to immigrate to his country of choice if it went through Russia.

“My son went abroad on December 23. He went to look for a job and was caught in Russia and his passport was taken away. He told us that they were captured by Russian soldiers who threatened him with 10 years in prison and recruited him. “He “That he was forced to undergo military training,” his mother claimed. “I hope the government can bring my son home safely.” “

Belarus is considered one of Moscow’s closest allies, and the joint military exercises have fueled speculation that Minsk may be preparing to take a more active role in the war.

According to reports, apart from this group of Indians from Haryana and Punjab, at least 10 Indians from different states were stranded on the front lines after traveling to Russia through agents, hoping to find jobs as security guards or laborers.

The foreign ministry said it was aware of some Indians involved in Russia’s war in Ukraine and was working with Moscow to bring them back. A government spokesman said: “We are aware… that the Indian Embassy has discussed with the relevant Russian authorities the issue of their early demobilization. We urge all Indians to stay away from this conflict.”
