New York:
According to New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Placatin, an Indian -origin municipal councilor has been accused of participating in gambling operations run by the mafia. Anand Shah, 42, was one of the 39 people, who was accused of “raccizoring, gambling crime, money laundering and other crimes”, Platkin said on Friday.
He said that allegations were filed after raiding 12 places in the state including 4 poker clubs.
Another person from the Indian dynasty, Longwood, Florida 48-year-old Sameer S. Nadikarni was also among those who were described as “Sportsbook Sub-agent/poker host”.
Shah was a growing politician in New Jersey, who provided his second term as a municipal councilor in the Prospect Park, a New York suburb, and was in charge of Finance, Economic Development and Insurance.
“The arrest of a member of a sitting council only adds fuel to the fire” said Platkin said.
According to Plakin’s office, Shah was allegedly identified as an online sportsbook management with illegal poker games and Luchanges Crime Family.
“Luchess Crime Family” is one of the dreaded Italian-American mafia groups in the US, which also works with people of other ethnicities.
Sportsbook gambling includes betting on the sports tournament.
According to officials, the gambling operation was an $ 3 million operation.
Platkin said that while crowd activity has been “romantic” in films and television, “reality is not romantic or cinematic. It is about breaking laws that the rest of us follow and eventually, it is about the danger of money, control and violence”.
Officials said gambling operations were run behind legitimate businesses from social clubs or as restaurants, and it also included gambling machines.
