A 46-year-old Indian-origin security officer has been accused of giving false information to a civil servant about the safe disposal of fake improvised explosive devices used in a mock exercise, which later sparked panic in the region, media reports said. .

According to the Straits Times, Durendran Vicknesh Venkatraman was assigned the task on January 5 to deal with the security agency’s arrest of Singaporean industries at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park in Singapore that day. An improvised explosive device (IED) used in a simulation exercise at the park.

However, he failed to do so and the IED was later found abandoned in a public place, causing panic among the people and authorities.

Due to the situation, authorities were forced to deploy police and ban at least 100 people from entering the premises until the item was determined to be a fake IED, the report said.

The report quoted a senior police officer as saying: “He was supposed to dispose of the fake IED after receiving a call from the exercise team.” Furthermore, when authorities tried to contact Venkatraman about the matter, he was absent for five After many hours, he returned and lied to authorities that he had disposed of it.

Venkatraman’s case has been adjourned to April 30. If convicted of providing false information to a public servant, he can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to S$5,000.

For falsifying accounts, offenders can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
