New Delhi:
In the summer of 2020, as the world came to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic, Indian-origin doctor Kulvinder Kaur Gill spoke out against government-imposed lockdowns and vaccination regulations. But her stance has been met with lawsuits from medical organizations and scrutiny from X/Twitter’s former management.
Dr. Gill, a Canadian doctor who specializes in immunology and pediatrics, is currently embroiled in a legal battle over her coronavirus-related tweets. Faced with huge legal fees of up to CAD 300,000 (Rs. 1,83,75,078), she received support from X, who promised to pay her fees.
“Because she spoke out on Twitter (now Department investigation and disciplinary action. X said in a statement that the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario will record a “warning” on her permanent public record.

“When Elon Musk learned of her crowdfunding campaign to pay the judgment earlier this week (and he promised to help), Judgment and legal costs,” it added.
The legal battle that followed wiped out Dr. Gill’s life savings and left her with huge debts.
The Indian-origin doctor is strongly opposed to vaccination. “If you haven’t realized we don’t need a vaccine, you’re not paying attention. #FactsNotFear,” she posted on X in August 2020.
Her posts were roundly criticized by the medical community and much of the mainstream media. Dr. Gill sued 23 doctors, journalists and news outlets, claiming they participated in a defamation campaign against her.
The judge dismissed the lawsuit citing anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) laws, saying Dr. Gill’s goal was to silence critics on public platforms. Dr Gill was directed to bear the defendant’s legal costs.
