A 50-year-old man from India’s Punjab province was found stabbed at his home in Abbotsford, Canada, on Friday night, and his wife has been charged with second-degree murder, CTV News reported.

Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur. Kaur’s husband Jagpreet Singh was arrested from the spot on Saturday.

According to a statement from the Abbotsford Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault on Wagner Avenue on March 15 at approximately 10:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, they found Call inside the residence suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, she died shortly after being taken to hospital.

Police have not released any information about a possible motive for the killing. However, they confirmed that the victim knew Singer.

“This was an isolated incident,” Sergeant Timothy Pierotti said in a statement. “The investigation is ongoing and we are committed to supporting the community affected by this tragedy.”
