He was speaking at the Kerala Health Tourism and Global Ayurveda Summit and Expo 2025, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Kotecha said Ayurveda and traditional health care systems are at the cusp of a major transformation and their contribution to India’s GDP is projected to increase from the current 1.1 percent to five percent by 2047.
He also said investment proposals worth US$1.2 billion are already in the pipeline, a press release said.
Kotecha lauded Kerala’s leading role in Ayurveda and described it as a model for other states.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav, while addressing the event online, praised Kerala for its excellence in Ayurveda care and treatment infrastructure, the release said.
Kerala Industries Minister P Rajeev outlined the state government’s initiatives to establish Kerala as a leading global healthcare destination.
He highlighted the ongoing efforts to integrate Ayurveda with modern medicine and promote the state as a holistic wellness hub, the release said.
Addressing the inaugural session, Dr. Sajikumar, Chairman, CII Global Ayurveda Summit said that Kerala’s Ayurveda economy is projected to reach Rs 60,000 crore from present till 2031 15,000 crores.
According to the release, he said the sector is expected to continue its growth momentum and touch 5 lakh crore by 2047, in line with the vision of a developed India.
Thomas John Muthoot, President, CII Southern Region, said that South India has the strongest health care facilities in the country and highlighted Kerala’s unique strengths in both wellness and modern health care.
CII Kerala President VKC Razak underlined the vital role of healthcare and wellness in the state’s economy and called the sector “one of its most resilient pillars”, the release said.
