Indian Army successfully tested Akash Prime missile system in Ladakh sector at 15,000 feet, score two direct hit

In a significant development, the Indian Army on Wednesday conducted successful tests of indigenously developed Akash Prime Air Defense System at an altitude of more than 15,000 feet in the Ladakh region.

The test was performed by the army’s air defense with senior officials of the Defense Research and Development Organization, which has developed the system.

During the trials, the Surface-to-air missiles recorded two direct hits against the very fast growing target aircraft in a very high altitude area in a rare environment.

The Akash Prime system will construct the third and fourth regiments of the Akash Air Defense System in the Indian Army.

The system also performed very well during the Operation Sindoor during the failure of air strikes by the Pakistan Army using Chinese aircraft and Turkish drones.

Compared to the current sky system, Akash Prime is equipped with an indigenous active radio frequency (RF) seeker for better accuracy.

Other reforms also ensure more reliable performance under low temperature environments at high altitude. A modified ground system of the existing sky weapon system has also been used.

The Akash Prime system has further enhanced the trust of users (Indian Army and Indian Air Force). The missile can be deployed at heights up to 4,500 meters and move the target down at a distance of about 25–30 km. (AI)
