Indian Army set up a "Sinna Gilgit" community radio station in Gurez

Srinagar, August 09: The Indian Army has launched a new community radio station called “Sinna Gilgit” in the Gurez Valley. The objective of this initiative is to inform the local population about employment opportunities, government schemes and promote the unique culture and traditions of Gurez.

Radio stations are broadcast in Hindi and Mitina languages which are widely spoken in Gurez and surrounding areas. This effort not only ensures better communication with local residents, but also helps in preserving and promoting local dialects, music and heritage.

The radio station is inaugurated by the widespread initiative of the Indian Army, which is aimed at winning hearts and minds in remote areas, under “Operation Samban”. The people of Gurez have warmly welcomed the move, expressing praise for an accessible platform that reflects their voice and identity.

With limited access to Internet and other communication features in the valley, “icon Gilgit” is expected to become a reliable source of information for many inhabitants. It is also likely to encourage youth participation in local development and cultural revival.

The Indian Army plays an active role in supporting border communities, and this initiative adds a new chapter to its efforts to promote peace, development and cultural pride in Gurez.
