Indian Army pays tribute to 77th United Nations Peace Sainik Day

The Indian Army paid a heartfelt tribute to the 77th United Nations Peace Sainik Day, with a serious wreath ceremony held at the National War Memorial on Thursday, the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the peace operations of the United Nations worldwide were honored.

Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief Army Staff (Information System and Coordination) led the ceremony, gave a wreath to remember 179 Indian soldiers, who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving 49 United Nations peace campaigns.

Senior military officers and personnel of the United Nations Ambassadors participated in the event, reflecting India’s global peace and stable commitment to security, which is one of the largest contingent-yoga nations, with more than 200,000 Indian soldiers participating in these 49 missions.

The ceremony underlined the courage, dedication and professionalism of Indian peace soldiers, who have played an important role in maintaining the ideals of the United Nations in the struggle areas worldwide.

The United Nations Peacekeepers Day is celebrated annually on 29 May, marking the day when the first United Nations Peace Mission, “UN Trus Supervision Organization (UNTSO)”, began operating in Palestine in 1948.

The day serves as a poignant reminder of sacrifices made by peaceful soldiers and permanent heritage of India in promoting international peace and stability.
