Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the government is planning to launch ‘Bharat Taxi’, a ride-hailing mobility app that aims to free the country’s commercial vehicle drivers from dependence on private companies.

The digital app, ‘Bharat Taxi’, will be operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, a multi-state cooperative society registered under the MSCS Act 2002, on June 06, 2025, Shah said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

“Yes, the government has proposed to launch a cooperative-led digital app mobility platform that will help free the country’s commercial vehicle drivers from dependence on private companies,” he said.

Key features of the Bharat Taxi app include user-friendly mobile ride booking, transparent fares, vehicle tracking, support for multilingual interfaces and 24/7 customer services to enhance accessibility, secure and verified onboarding, inclusive mobility, tech-enabled support and security measures for citizens.

With a zero commission model, drivers will receive full earnings from each ride. The profit of the cooperative society will be distributed directly to the drivers.

He said a transparent pricing model would be beneficial for both drivers and passengers.
