New Delhi’s move came hours after Indian Ambassador to Dhaka Prannoy Verma was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs for registering a protest against the “unfortunate incidents” outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
There have been protests outside the Bangladesh High Commission against the recent lynching of a Hindu activist in the conflict-torn neighboring country.
People familiar with the matter said Hamidullah was told in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) that Bangladesh should conduct a proper investigation into Hadi’s murder.
India’s call for a thorough investigation into Hadi’s killing came as baseless allegations of Indian involvement in his death stoked anti-India sentiment in that country.
After Hadi’s death, protests are taking place outside Indian embassies in Bangladesh.

Last week, a group of angry protesters tried to storm India’s Assistant High Commission in Chittagong. India subsequently suspended its visa services at the mission.
After summoning the Indian envoy, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry said it conveyed its “serious concern” to the envoy over “regrettable incidents outside the perimeter of the Bangladesh High Commission and Residence in New Delhi” on 20 December and acts of vandalism at the Bangladesh Visa Center in Siliguri on 22 December.
“Bangladesh also expressed deep concern over the violent protests outside the premises of various diplomatic missions of Bangladesh in India,” it said.
Bangladesh has seen a fresh wave of unrest following Hadi’s death last week. Hadi was a prominent face in the anti-government protests that led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man, was killed in Mymensingh, Bangladesh amid the latest protests.
India had also summoned Bangladesh’s envoy Hamidullah last Wednesday and expressed its strong concern over some extremist elements announcing plans to create a security situation around the Indian mission in Dhaka.
India’s action came after some extremist elements announced plans to hold protests around the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that India completely rejects the “false narrative” created by extremist elements regarding some recent incidents in Bangladesh.
It said, “It is unfortunate that the interim government neither conducted a thorough investigation nor shared meaningful evidence with India regarding the incidents.”
