India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that the implications of sanctions imposed by the United States on Russian oil companies are being studied. Addressing the weekly press briefing in New Delhi on Thursday, October 30, External Affairs Ministry official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We are studying the implications of these sanctions. Our decisions naturally take into account the evolving dynamics of the global market.”
Jaiswal said, “Our position on the larger question of energy sourcing is well-known. In this endeavour, we are guided by the imperative to secure affordable energy from diverse sources to meet the energy security needs and requirements of 1.4 billion people.”
