New Delhi:
Following complaints from domestic companies, India has launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of aluminum foil from China, which is used as a packaging material to preserve and preserve edible and food products.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the investigative agency of the Commerce Ministry, is probing the aluminum foil dumping allegations.
Hindalco Industries, Shyam Sel & Power Ltd, Shree Venkateshwara Electrocast, Ravi Raj Foils, GLS Foils Product and LSKB Aluminum Foils have filed applications on behalf of the domestic industry seeking a probe.
They alleged dumping of the product from China.
The bureau said in a notice that the applicant had provided preliminary evidence on the damage caused by dumped imported products to the domestic industry.
“The competent authorities hereby initiate an anti-dumping investigation into the alleged dumping and the material damage it has caused to the domestic industry,” it said.
If it is determined that dumping has caused substantial damage to domestic enterprises, the DGTR will recommend the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the imported products.
The Treasury Department has the final say on imposing tariffs.
Countries conduct anti-dumping investigations to determine whether domestic industries have been harmed by a surge in cheap imports.
As a countermeasure, they imposed these tariffs under the multilateral system of the Geneva-based World Trade Organization (WTO). The tariffs are intended to ensure fair trade practices and create a level playing field between domestic producers and foreign producers and exporters.
India has imposed anti-dumping duties on a variety of products in response to cheap imports from various countries, including China.
