New Delhi, October 29 (IANS) Captain Dhananjay Kumar of Bothra Shipping said during the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai on Wednesday that India’s maritime sector is going through a transformational phase under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Appreciating the Prime Minister’s long-term vision and continued commitment towards maritime development, Captain Kumar said that India is steadily emerging as a global maritime hub.
He said that since 2016, PM Modi has continuously worked to strengthen the maritime industry through large-scale reforms and modernization initiatives.
“In the last decade, India has seen major innovation and expansion in ports including Vadavan, Vizhinjam and Paradip. This progress reflects the government’s focused approach to make India a maritime power,” he told IANS.
Captain Kumar highlighted that the development of new ports, coastal trade routes and better logistics infrastructure has played a significant role in enhancing India’s cargo-handling capacity.
“Increased rail connectivity to key industries like steel, fertilizers and mining has made transportation more efficient and reliable, thereby strengthening the country’s trade network,” he said.
According to him, these initiatives have not only attracted global attention but have also significantly contributed to employment generation, regional economic development and India’s integration into the global supply chain.
Discussing PM Modi’s Vision 2047, Captain Kumar said it represents a blueprint for India to emerge as a global leader in maritime trade and shipping through technological innovation and sustainable development.
“The Prime Minister aims to build a self-reliant and economically strong India by making the maritime sector a driver of national progress,” he said.
He also said that India’s growing maritime power is a reflection of the country’s long-term commitment to achieving economic resilience and global competitiveness through strategic port development and modernisation.
