New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday made a series of strong remarks on spirituality, national identity, Indian civilization and contemporary challenges at the Divya Geeta Prerna Utsav in Lucknow and called the country a ‘Hindu nation’.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present in this program.
Addressing the gathering, Bhagwat said that the teachings of Geeta provide clarity and guidance in every age and situation.
He said, “One must read the Gita in its original form and understand it deeply – then everything becomes clear. A special quality of the Gita is that every time you contemplate it, you discover something new, something relevant to your present situation.”
Citing the scriptures, he said that Lord Krishna teaches individuals not to run away from problems but to stand firm and face them.
Bhagwat expressed concern that despite increasing material prosperity, society is suffering from “lack of morality, peace and satisfaction”.
He said many people think they are moving forward in life but “yet they feel they are on the wrong path.” He stressed that the right path lies in India’s civilizational values.
“India’s life traditions once brought peace and harmony to the world,” he said.
Reflecting on India’s history, the RSS chief said the country was once a “vishwaguru” but centuries of invasions destroyed temples, forced conversions and pushed the country into subjugation.
“Those days of invasion are gone. Now we have hoisted the flag on the Ram temple,” he declared. He said that despite centuries of oppression, India’s cultural identity has survived.
Calling India a “Hindu society and Hindu nation”, Bhagwat urged citizens to embrace dharma, duty, service and sacrifice. He said, “The essence of all the traditions and knowledge of the world has been given by Lord Vyas in 700 verses of Geeta.”
He also drew parallels between ancient conflicts and current global turmoil. He said, “The kinds of wars that were fought 1,000 years ago are still happening today. Crime and greed remain the same.”
Paying tribute to the freedom fighters, Bhagwat said that the martyrs of 1857 and heroes like Chandrashekhar Azad did not achieve anything materially, yet their sacrifice continues to inspire generations.
He said, “He did not see victory in his lifetime, but his life continues to pave the way for us even today.”
