He also described as ‘fake’ the reports in Pakistani media that India has not provided air flight facilities to Pakistan to send aid to Sri Lanka.
The official request for the overflight was submitted by Pakistan at around 1300 hrs (IST) on Monday, seeking permission to fly over Indian airspace, the people said.
He said, given the fact that the request was related to humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka, India quickly approved the request and informed it to Pakistan at 1730 hours (Indian time) on Monday through official channels.
He said it was processed in the shortest notice period of four hours.
The people said that despite Pakistan imposing restrictions on its airspace for Indian airlines, the move by India was considered purely on humanitarian grounds.
One person said, “Pakistani media, as usual, is indulging in disinformation and spreading fake news. These allegations are baseless and misleading. All requests for flight or transit are processed strictly as per established procedures and international norms.”
India’s decisions on airspace permissions are governed by standard operational, technical and security assessments, not political considerations, the people said.
The reports in Pakistani media are both inaccurate and irresponsible, he said.
Sri Lanka is battling severe floods caused by a powerful cyclone. More than 390 people died due to the flood.
