Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that India has so far vacated 3,426 Indian citizens from Iran and 818 Indian citizens from Israel in Operation Sindhu.
Addressing a weekly briefing on Thursday, Jaiswal said, “We launched Operation Sindhu on 18 June. We have about 10,000 people from the Indian community in Iran, about 40,000 people in Israel who are Indian citizens.”
“From Iran, we have so far vacated 3,426 Indian citizens, 11 OCI card holders, 9 Nepali citizens and some Sri Lankan citizens. I will give you an exact figure. Plus Plus is an Iranian national who is the life partner of an Indian citizen. Ashbat, Turkmenistan,” he said.
In addition, Jaiswal confirmed that, “Another flight is coming from Armenia or on its way and it will land later this evening. With this, we must have completed all those who want to be removed from Iran and they will return home.”
In Israel, 818 Indian citizens were evacuated in four flights. Due to Israeli’s closed airspace, Indians were taken to Jordan and Egypt, from where special flights were operated to bring them back home. Mea thanked the governments of Egypt, Jordan and Israel for his support.
“As far as Israel is concerned, we have vacated 818 Indian citizens in four flights so far. As you know, the airspace in Israel was closed, so we had to take our people to border countries, that is Jordan and Egypt, and they were placed on special flights from these two countries and they came back home.”
He said, “In Israel, in Jordan, our embassies in Egypt said together with the headquarters of the ministry to increase this operation. Once again, we want to thank Israel, Jordan and Egypt governments for support in Operation Indus.”
Jaiswal also thanked Iran’s governments for opening their airspace for evacuation.
He said, “We made a request and they expect to open the airspace for us to vacate their citizens. We are grateful to the Iran government for this special gesture. We are also grateful to the Turkmenistan and Armenia government to help us vacate our people,” he said.
