Indian imports from Pakistan will be zero from the current level of US $ about about half a million between neighboring countries, after a new ban announced by the Center, Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) founder Ajay Srivastava said in a note.
The step took place after the city’s attack in Pahgam amidst increasing tension between India and Pakistan, in which 26 tourists lost their lives.
“Already minuscule imports from India to US $ 0.5 million from Pakistan – will now be zero. Nobody will miss anything in India, except the Himalayan pink salt (deserted salt), the salt deposits of Pakistan were extracted,” said Ajay Srivastava, the founder of GTRI.
Srivastava said that the move to ban import from Pakistan is mostly symbolic, as India had already imposed 200 percent tariffs after the 2019 Pulwama attack. The heavy tariff post Pulwama attack reduced imports between April 2024 and January 2025 by USD 0.42 million.
After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, who killed 26 people, the Central Government announced several diplomatic measures, such as closing the integrated check post (ICP) in the attic, suspending the SAARC Visa Rebate Scheme (SSES) for Pakistani citizens, 40 hours to return to their country and reducing the number of officers in high -comers in both sides.
