India continued their dominance against Bangladesh with a 56-run win via the Duckworth-Lewis method in the rain-interrupted fourth Women’s T20 match on Monday. The competition had to be shortened due to a late start and then a delay of more than an hour due to persistent rain and hailstorm. Harmanpreet Kaur (38) and Richa Ghosh (24) stitched a 44-run partnership to help India post 122 for 6 against Bangladesh, with the match reduced to 14 overs due to persistent rain. The hosts had to achieve the target of 125 runs in 14 overs under the DLS method to achieve their first win in the series. But except openers Dilara Akhtar (21), Rubia Haider (13) and Shorifa Khatoon (11 not out), other batsmen failed to reach double figures as they kept losing wickets.

India gave a debut opportunity to 33-year-old leg spinner Asha Shobhana, who returned with figures of 2/18 in three overs.

Senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma (2/13) took two wickets, while Radha Yadav (1/12) and fast bowler Pooja Vastrakar (1/15) took one wicket each as India restricted Bangladesh to 68/7. .

India is leading 4-0 in the five-match series.

Earlier, playing her 300th international game, Kaur stitched a vital partnership with big-hitting Ghosh (24), which boosted India’s total.

Both came out after the rain with positive intentions and hit eight fours and a six in the span of 28 balls.

India lost opener Shafali Verma (2) early. Shorifa Khatoon bowled a full length ball and the opener tried to clear the in-field but could not reach the middle as the ball went into the hands of Ritu Moni at extra cover.

Dayalan Hemalatha (22) hit a few fours and sixes before his rampage was halted by Marufa Ector, who trapped the Indian leg before wicket.

Play was stopped with India 48/2 in 5.5 overs.

Smriti Mandhana (22) restarted the game by hitting an excellent four. But the opener, who looked aggressive throughout her innings, could not stay in the middle for long and became the victim of Rabeya Khan.

Then Ghosh (24) and Kaur together tried to increase India’s total score, but Ghosh was caught out at long off. Kaur was run out in the last over.
